Veidekke: To renovate life science building in Gothenburg

Veidekke: To renovate life science building in Gothenburg

Veidekke has been commissioned by Akademiska Hus to complete a full renovation

of the Zoologen building in Gothenburg. The project is a design and build

contract with an estimated total cost of approximately NOK 315 million.

Occupancy of the building is expected to start in fall 2026.

Outside, the look of the building will change completely, and inside, Akademiska

Hus is planning 15 fully renovated laboratory and office spaces ranging from 100

m[2] to 850 m[2], and featuring complete laboratory infrastructure. In addition,

the project includes a lunch café with a shared dining hall, as well as meeting

rooms and a gym. The project emphasises sustainability and reuse, and materials

from the old building have been collected by kindergartens and schools for their

reuse.

Located at Medicinareberget, with amazing views of the city and proximity to

both nature and the city centre, Zoologen sits next to Gothenburg University and

Sahlgrenska University Hospital, and will be part of a growing life science

cluster.

"With Zoologen we are creating modern and sustainable premises for life science

companies, in the middle of a research and education environment. Through our

solid collaboration with Veidekke, we are not only developing a building, but

also enriching the campus with new possibilities," says Martin Dahlberg, project

manager at Akademiska Hus.

"We are proud to be entrusted by Akademiska Hus with another project - to

transform this 1960s building into a stylish and modern laboratory and office

property," says Christer Carlberg at Veidekke.

The first stage of the project, with a contract value of NOK 112 million, was

included in the order book for Q2 2025. Approx. NOK 200 million is included as

new orders in the Q3 2025 order book.
