Veidekke: To build treatment plant outside Ålesund

Veidekke: To build treatment plant outside Ålesund

The municipalities of Ålesund and Sula have signed a contract with Veidekke to

carry out the construction works related to the new Kongshaugen treatment plant.

The commission is a design and build contract valued at NOK 400 million

excluding VAT.

"We are delighted to have won the competition for this commission, and we very

much appreciate the vote of confidence. We are most grateful to have been given

the opportunity to work closely with these two municipalities as we build vital

infrastructure that will help make the fjords cleaner," says Stig Mork, District

Manager at Veidekke Bygg Møre og Romsdal.

The main part of the contract includes a number of construction-related works

pertaining to the treatment plant in the bedrock, such as major concrete works,

the boring of ventilation shafts and water and frost protection. Veidekke will

also construct an administration building of approximately 1,000 m2 comprising

two storeys, including related foundation works and landscaping. Low carbon

concrete will be used in all structures, while electric trucks will be used for

the transport of most materials.

The municipalities of Ålesund and Sula are working together through their

project 'BLÅ - fjordar for framtida (https://blafjordar.no/)' (BLUE - Fjords for

the Future) to clean the waste water generated by almost 50,000 residents across

their combined area (with capacity to 66.000 residents). The plant at

Kongshaugen (Kvasnes) will make fjords cleaner while also ensuring that all

formal requirements relating to the treatment of wastewater in the two

municipalities are met.

Work on the project's caverns is well under way, while Veidekke's construction

works will begin in September and are scheduled for completion in January 2028.

This commission is included in Veidekke's order book for Q2.
