Veidekke: Building water treatment plant in Bærum
Veidekke has signed a contract today with Asker og Bærum Vannverk IKS to build a
new water treatment plant at Kattås in Vestmarka in Bærum municipality. The
contract is an execution contract valued at NOK 601 million excluding VAT.
In order to satisfy future requirements to drinking water quality, Asker and
Bærum waterworks will build a new facility to treat crude water at Kattås in
Bærum. The existing facility at Kattås currently gets its crude water from
Holsfjorden. As the colour figure in Holsfjorden is increasing and sometimes
exceeds the drinking water regulations' recommendations, a new treatment plant
needs to be built. The new plant will be able to supply large parts of Asker and
Bærum with drinking water in an estimated normal situation in 2050.
Veidekke has been awarded the rock excavation and concrete contract in the
project. Rock excavation involves blasting of approximately 182,000 m[3] in
access tunnels and four large halls. Concrete work will start next summer and is
related to two large clean water basins for storage of around 25 million litres
of water, two large filter basins with eleven metre high walls and several
technical rooms.
"Ensuring that residents have clean water is an important task for society, so
this is a major and significant project both for Asker and Bærum waterworks and
for Veidekke. We have good expertise in this field and have recently completed a
similar project for the City of Oslo at Maridalsvannet. We appreciate the
confidence shown in us and look forward to starting the work," says director
Neal Nordahl of Veidekke Anlegg.
Construction work starts in August and completion is scheduled for 2025. The
contract is included in Veidekke's order backlog for Q2 2022. Read more about
the project here. (http://www.abvann.no/nytt-vannbehandlingsanlegg-i-asker-og
