Veidekke ASA: To build Nordic Ecolabelled massive-wood homes for OBOS in Sigtuna, Sweden

Veidekke has been commissioned by OBOS to build 53 Nordic Ecolabelled

residential units in Sigtuna, northwest of Stockholm. The project is a design

and build contract valued at approx. SEK 101 million, with occupancy expected to

start in Q1 2023.

"We are pleased to announce that the project is starting up," says Tommy

Waldnert, property developer at OBOS. "While industrial factory production is

the OBOS norm, this project required a different type of construction to meet

specific noise requirements. With a department dedicated to wood construction,

Veidekke fulfilled an important prerequisite in the project."

The brand new Sigtuna Stadsängar district aims to be Sweden's most sustainable.

A 330,000 m[2] area will house 900 residential units, built for various types of

living formats and rental contracts. In the upcoming Brf Honungskupan project,

Veidekke Entreprenad will construct the buildings, while OBOS will develop and

sell the 53 tenant-owned apartments, and Sveriges Bostadsrättscentrum (SBC) will

be responsible for the further management of the housing association.

"We look forward to contributing with OBOS to the development of Sigtuna, by

building this great project of Nordic Ecolabelled multi-family massive-wood

units," says Linda Björklund in Veidekke Bygg Stockholm.

The 53 two-, three- and four-room units, with 47-104 m[2 ]of living space, will

offer a variety of floor plans. All units will have a balcony or patio, and the

buildings will vary in height and color schemes. The name of the new housing

association, Brf Honungskupan, refers to the sustainability ambitions set for

Sigtuna Stadsängar, where builders must fulfill the municipality's list of some

twenty requirements to ensure that construction is environmentally friendly.

The contract is included in the order book for the current quarter.
