Veidekke: Upgrading water purification plant in Bergen

Veidekke: Upgrading water purification plant in Bergen

Veidekke has today signed a contract with Bergen municipality for the expansion

and upgrading of the Espeland water purification plant. The contract is a design

and build contract valued at NOK 240 million excluding VAT.

The Espeland water purification plant is due to be upgraded with a new water

purification process that will satisfy modern day requirements and hygiene

standards while also increasing its capacity. This will include a colour-removal

stage in the processing of crude water pumped in from Lake Svartavatnet in

addition to increasing the maximum water production level from 67,000 m[3] per

24-hour period to 80,000 m[3]. In order to optimise the Espeland power plant,

the intake will be rebuilt to reduce the dependency of the plant on water

production.

"The supply of drinking water from the Gullfjellet mountain is well-known to

many residents in the Bergen area as a delicious and stable, and now we are

going to make it even better. This multifaceted project is the perfect fit with

our in-house skills and expertise. We are delighted to be entrusted with this

commission and look forward to beginning work," says Thor Småbrekke, District

Manager for Veidekke Bygg Bergen.

Veidekke has been awarded the main contract which includes construction work on

the new purification plant, groundworks and other outdoor works, as well as the

re-routing and creation of new outdoor infrastructure. Furthermore, parts of the

existing purification plant are to be rebuilt while separate space is to be

established for the operation of the facility.

"The Bergen Water Authority looks forward to a positive partnership with

Veidekke on what is a critical project in the shape of a new purification plant

for the municipality of Bergen and its residents," says Bergen Water Authority

Project Manager Oddbjørn Andersen.

Construction work is due to begin after the summer holidays and handover is

scheduled for 2027. The contract is included in Veidekke's order book for Q2

2023. Read more about the project
