Veidekke still top of class in environmental reporting performance, according to CDP

Veidekke still top of class in environmental reporting performance, according to CDP

For the second consecutive year, Veidekke scored top marks for greenhouse gas

emissions reporting. The rating is provided by CDP, the international charity

which runs the global environmental disclosure system.

"Veidekke strives to reduce our carbon footprint and facilitate transfer to

greener alternatives. To receive top marks from the renowned and independent CDP

organisation is confirmation that we are on the right track," says Jimmy

Bengtsson, Group CEO of Veidekke.

The construction industry is traditionally a major contributor to global

greenhouse gas emissions. In compliance with the United Nations' 2[o]C target,

Veidekke has set targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the company's

operations by 50 % by 2030 and 90 % by 2050.

Examples of measures that have contributed to reducing emissions, are the

introduction of fossil-free construction sites and the gradual electrification

of machinery and vehicles. At Ruseløkka school in Oslo, Veidekke is also

carrying out a pilot project aimed at achieving a completely emissions-free

building site. Other measures that have proven efficient are the use of biomass

as energy carrier in asphalt production, transition to low-temperature asphalt,

and increased reuse in asphalt production.

CDP Climate Change (formerly the Climate Disclosure Project) is a British-based

international charity that runs the global environmental disclosure system, to

support companies and governments to measure and manage their risks and

opportunities on climate change, water security and deforestation. In 2019, CDP

rated more than 8 000 companies worldwide on a scale from from A (best) to D

(worst), assessing how effectively they tackle climate change and provide

information on their environmental impact. Among the 178 companies worldwide to

qualify for the CDP A list, Norwegian companies comprise only a handful.

See cdp.net for more information about the assessment, and an overview of all

companies on the A list.
