Uscom Meets with Chinese Health Minister
SYDNEY, Australia, Friday 9th September 2016: Uscom Limited (ASX code: UCM) (the Company or Uscom ), a revenue stage, cardiovascular medical devices company, today notified the market that Uscom CEO, Professor Rob Phillips, met with the Chinese Minister for Health Mr Li Bin and the Jinan Health Bureau Chief Mr Jia Tanghong during a visit to the Shandong Provincial Hospital in Jinan, China.
The meeting was a demonstration to Chinese Government health leaders of the standard setting practices and advanced technologies adopted in the showcase Shandong Provincial Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The ICU is led by Professor Wang Chun-ting, a Chinese leader in Critical Care education and practice and an Uscom collaborator. Uscom CEO, Professor Rob Phillips, attended the meeting via the ICU’s live video-application from Sydney and discussed with the Health Minister Uscom’s long term relationships with China. The use of the USCOM 1A in the advanced ICU, and the potential applications of the new Uscom BP+ and SpiroSonic devices for management of hypertension, heart failure, asthma and COPD in the hospital and home care environments were discussed. Specific clinical initiatives around the use of Uscom devices in China were also discussed.
Shandong Province has a population of approximately 96.4m with more general and specialized hospitals than any other province in China, including nearly 80,000 healthcare institutions and nearly 2,000 hospitals. China has a population of 1.36B, with nearly 100,000 total health care institutions and 26,000 hospitals, and improving health care standards is a key political and social metric for the Chinese Government, and they are committed to growing the GDP proportion of health spend unlike many other Governments.
Professor Wang is an early adopter of new technology having implemented routine use of robots and innovative new products in his department. He bought his first USCOM 1A device in 2009 and has since adopted USCOM 1A as a standard of care and purchased a further 4 units. Professor Wang has also developed and implemented advanced video technology and telemedicine for education and ICU training, allowing connection of over 1000 regional Shandong ICU clinicians into his Department. Professor Phillips regularly visits Shandong, is a co-author with Professor Wang, and has been actively involved in delivery of education and clinical training in Shandong over the last 7 years. This has included a number of academic tele-presentations by Professor Phillips from his Uscom office at Circular Quay.
Executive Chairman of Uscom, Associate Professor Rob Phillips said “China is Uscom’s largest market, and this exposure of Uscom and its products directly to the Chinese Health Minister is recognition of our long term commitment to this market and another step in advancing our large scale adoption in China. Uscom recently executed an importation and wholesale agreement with the wholly State owned CIIC Shanghai, Science and Technology group for $65m of Uscom sales over 5 years. I believe a strong state owned partner is vital for success in China, connecting us to Government and Hospitals, and the CIIC partnership is planned to ensure continued excellent future growth as we bring the new BP+ and Spirosonic product series to the Chinese market.”
Uscom is the manufacturer of the USCOM 1A, the Uscom BP+, and Uscom SpiroSonic digital ultrasonic spirometry technologies and distributes and sells these devices worldwide. These premium digital devices are changing the way clinician diagnose and treat cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases, including hypertension, heart failure, asthma, COPD and sleep disorders. The products are integral for optimising management of sepsis, guidance of fluid, inotropes and vasoactive therapies in critical care monitoring, for advanced monitoring of hypertensiona and pre-eclampsia, and in clinical and home care asthma and COPD monitoring.

About Uscom
Uscom Limited (UCM) is an ASX listed innovative medical technology company specialising in development and marketing of premium cardiovascular and pulmonary medical devices. Uscom has three practice leading suites of devices in the field of cardiac, vascular and pulmonary monitoring; the USCOM 1A, Uscom BP+ and the Uscom SpiroSonic spirometers. All Uscom devices are premium resolution, and deploy innovative and practice leading technologies, with FDA, CE, CFDA and TGA regulatory approval granted or in application, and which are currently being marketed into global distribution networks.
The USCOM 1A is a simple to use, cost-effective and non-invasive advanced haemodynamic monitor that measures cardiovascular function, detects irregularities and is used to guide treatment. The USCOM 1A device has major applications in Paediatrics, Emergency, Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia, and is the device of choice for management of adult and paediatric sepsis, hypertension, heart failure and for the guidance of fluid, inotrope and vasoactive cardiovascular therapy.
The Uscom BP+ is a supra systolic oscillometric Central Blood Pressure monitor which measures blood pressure and blood pressure waveforms only previously available using cardiac catheterisation. The Uscom BP+ replaces conventional and more widespread sub systolic blood pressure monitors, and is the emerging standard of care measurement in hypertension, heart failure and vascular health. The Uscom BP+ provides a highly accurate and repeatable measurement of central and brachial blood pressure and pulse pressure waveforms using a familiar upper arm cuff. The BP+ is simple to use and requires no complex training with applications in hypertension, heart failure, intensive care, general practice and home care.
Uscom SpiroSonic digital ultrasonic spirometers are high fidelity, digital, pulmonary function testing devices based on multi path ultrasound technology. They are simple and accurate to use and disinfect, don't require calibration, and provide research quality pulmonary function testing in small hand held devices that can be used in research, clinical and home care environments. The devices are specialised for assessment of asthma, COPD, sleep disordered breathing, occupational diseases and monitoring of pulmonary therapeutic compliance.
