Item 8.01 Other Events.

On September 17, 2012, Unum Group, a Delaware corporation (the “Company”), announced that Jack McGarry, who has served as President and CEO of Unum UK since July 2010, will return to the United States to manage the Company’s closed block of business. Peter O’Donnell, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Unum UK, has been named to replace Mr. McGarry as President and CEO of that unit. With Mr. O’Donnell’s promotion, Deputy Chief Financial Officer Stephen Harry has been named as Chief Financial Officer of Unum UK. A copy of the Company’s news release announcing these changes is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1 and incorporated herein by reference.
