(b) On October 6, 2011, Unum Group (the “Company”) announced that Robert O. Best, Executive Vice President, Global Services, has notified the Company that he will retire at year end. A copy of the Company’s news release announcing Mr. Best’s retirement is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1 and incorporated herein by reference.
