TZ ANNOUNCES JOINT DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT WITH KARMANN FOR AUTOMOTIVE CONVERTIBLE TOP APPLICATIONS
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, USA – 31 October 2007 – TZ Limited (ASX: TZL) is pleased to announce that a Joint Development Agreement has been finalized with Karmann Technical Development, LLC. Karmann is a leading global automotive supplier that designs, engineers and manufactures innovative products for vehicle manufacturers. This agreement formalizes Karmann as a customer in TZ’s early adopter program. Under the agreement, TZ and Karmann will work together exclusively to integrate Intevia[®] Intelligent Fastening Technology (IFT) into Karmann’s future convertible top systems.
TZ and Karmann are committed to jointly design, develop and validate designs and product applications incorporating Intevia[®] technology with the intent to integrate the technology into Karmann’s global automotive product lines. The two teams will work together to develop new mechanisms as well as modify existing ones to create an automotive grade product for incorporation into Karmann’s convertible top systems. Upon successful development and testing of the Intevia[®] solution, Karmann will market that system to their target automotive customers with the intention of securing production orders.
“We’re on the verge of witnessing a transformation in automotive design and manufacturing,” says TZ Group CEO David Feber. “As a premier automotive supplier, Karmann is a great company to partner with to create new, innovative products and collaborate with to offer Intevia[®] products to their global customers.”

as accelerate current commercial momentum with other automotive suppliers in other areas of the vehicle.
Intevia[®] fastener and actuation mechanisms incorporate state-of-the-art Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) actuators that offer power-to-weight ratios typically two or more times higher than conventional electrical-to-mechanical devices. The integration of Intevia[®] technology into automotive applications will decrease weight and will offer significant noise reductions over current devices and systems. Additionally, Intevia[®] offers a reduction in the number of parts within a system while providing further value such as improved cost and reliability.
“We look forward to our relationship with TZ,” says Dag Reckhorn, Karmann’s Vice President of Technical Development. “With TZ collaboration, we have the potential to offer our customers a truly innovative class of technology while giving us the opportunity to differentiate our products in the marketplace.”
Many automotive Tier One suppliers and OEMs are just now beginning to understand the enormous potential SMA technology will bring to the design and engineering of automotive products. TZ is the leader in intelligent fastening and actuation control technology and has developed proven technical solutions that are currently being implemented in aerospace, marine, defense and industrial applications as well.
