Item 5.02 Departure of Directors or Certain Officers; Election of Directors; Appointment of Certain Officers; Compensatory Arrangements of Certain Officers.

(d) On December 7, 2017, the Board of Directors (the “Board”) of Ingersoll-Rand plc (the “Company”) elected Kirk E. Arnold and Karen B. Peetz to serve as independent directors on the Company's Board, effective February 6, 2018 and April 4, 2018, respectively. Ms. Arnold will serve on the Compensation, Corporate Governance and Nominating, and Technology and Innovation Committees of the Board. Ms. Peetz will serve on the Audit and Finance Committees of the Board.

Ms. Arnold and Ms. Peetz will participate in the non-management director compensation program described on pages 26 through 28 of the Company's definitive proxy statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on April 24, 2017.
