TKH acquires optical metrology company FocalSpec

TKH Group NV ("TKH") announces that it has reached agreement on the acquisition of 100% of the shares in FocalSpec Oy ('FocalSpec'), an innovative optical metrology company based in Oulu (Finland), that designs and manufactures patented Line Confocal Imaging (LCI) technology. LCI technology is used to measure surface height variation and can scan everything from glass to opaque materials in both 2D and 3D at very high resolution and speed.

With this acquisition, TKH expands its vision technology with industry-leading confocal technology that solves applications in markets such as consumer electronics, battery, pharma, semiconductor and medical.

Alexander van der Lof, CEO of TKH: "The LCI technology offers a superior optical measurement technique for scanning transparent and curved materials, commonly found in the consumer electronic market. The combination of the LCI technology with our 3D vision inspection technology further strengthens our position in the vertical growth market Machine Vision and offers possibilities in new market areas for among others medical sealing and battery inspection."

Sauli Törmälä, Chairman of FocalSpec: "The addition of LCI technology to the 3D vision portfolio of TKH builds a highly complementary set of solutions for metrology applications in critical assembly processes. Along with their leading inspection software, we believe FocalSpec and TKH will be a power house of metrology and look forward to joining forces."

With 50 employees, FocalSpec realised a turnover of € 6.5 million over the last 12 months. The activities will be part of TKH's sub segment vision & security systems, within the business segment Building Solutions.

TKH finances the transaction from existing resources and expects that the acquisition will have a positive effect on TKH's earnings per share as per 2020.
