MARKET RELEASE
Telstra announces Robyn Denholm as new Chief Operations Officer
Monday 5 December 2016 –Telstra today announced that experienced international technology executive Robyn Denholm would join as Chief Operations Officer in early 2017.
Australian-born Ms Denholm was most recently Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operations Officer of global networking equipment and software security firm, Juniper Networks.
She is a Board member of renewable energy and electric vehicle company Tesla Motors and the Swiss robotics, power and automation technology company ABB.
Telstra Chief Executive Officer Andrew Penn today said Telstra had made a world class appointment to oversee the next generation development of its operational environment.
Mr Penn announced in August that Telstra would invest up to an extra $3 billion over three years, taking total capital expenditure to about $15 billion, largely in the operational and networks space.
“Robyn has a proven track record as a global COO in a business focused on telecommunications networks. She has overseen business model transformation, supply chain and broader business process re-engineering,” Mr Penn said.
“She has been a senior executive and director in a range of complex technology environments which make her ideally qualified for the role, leading a highly capable team within Telstra.
“She also brings strong understanding of the Australian market and Telstra as the leading network provider, as Juniper has been a valued partner of Telstra.”
Ms Denholm was in her role at Juniper Networks from 2007 to mid-2016. Over that time Juniper’s revenues more than doubled and she was a driving force in the company’s 2014 restructure and turnaround with record revenue and profitability performance in 2015.
She led global functions including Field Operations, Information Technology, Manufacturing, Finance, Treasury, Planning, Business Transformation, Real Estate, Investor Relations and Internal Audit.
She joined Juniper after 11 years with Sun Microsystems most recently as Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategic Planning. She held roles with Sun in Australia and the United States. She also worked for Toyota and Arthur Andersen in Australia.
Ms Denholm earned a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney and a Master of Commerce from the University of New South Wales. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of ANZ.
She will start in early 2017 based in Sydney. Acting COO Brendon Riley will return as Group Executive Global Enterprise and Services and acting GES Group Executive David Burns will return as Group Managing Director Network Applications and Services.
“These arrangements demonstrate the depth of our management team. I am grateful for Brendon and David for outstanding work in their acting roles and I look forward to continuing to work closely with them in their permanent roles,” Mr Penn said.
