Robert Nason to retire from Telstra

17 April 2015 – Telstr a ’s Group E x ecutive of B u siness Sup p ort and Imp r ovement, R o bert Nason , will retire after cha m pioning an h istoric prod u ctivity and c u stomer adv o cacy agenda across Te l stra.

Mr Nason , 60, was th e Telstra exe c utive respo n sible for est a blishing a m ulti-year, m u lti-billion dollar productivi t y program and led the in t roduction of the Net Pro m oter Syste m into Telstr a to drive foc u s on customer a dvocacy. Chief Exe c utive Office r David Tho d ey today sai d Mr Nason h ad been a c ritical playe r in Telstra’s s hift in customer, market and employee p e rceptions a n d would be s orely misse d .

“Robert h a s taken on m any of our l a rge, compl e x, difficult o p portunities d uring the pa s t five years and made them into s trategic op p ortunities fo r Telstra and tangible be n efits for our c ustomers a n d sharehol d ers,” Mr Thodey s a id.

“He has b e en in tirele s s pursuit of w aste, inefficiency and fr u stration to m ake it easie r for us to do business and easie r for people to do busine s s with us.

“Robert le d us to intro d uce NPS in July 2012 w h ich is now e mbedded in the way Tel s tra people w ork to serve and delig h t customers . These cha n ges have b e en historic i n our transiti o n.” Mr Nason said he felt t he time was right to expl o re opportunities for non-executive di r ector roles, h aving been part of su c h a significant improvement and cha n ge program for five year s .

“While th e task can ne v er be regar d ed as com p leted, Telstr a has made s trong progr e ss on the productivity and servi c e agenda. It has a deepl y entrenche d focus on improving the e xperience f o r our custo m ers and a strong team capable o f taking it for w ard,” he sa i d.

Mr Nason joined Telst r a in February 2010 from Tabcorp wh e re he was M anaging Dir e ctor, Wage r ing responsib l e for Tabcorp's race wagering and m e dia businesses, including Sky Chan n el and Sydney radio station 2K Y . He joined Tabcorp in J une 2006 a f ter holding t h e position o f Chief Exec u tive of Raci n g Victoria for more t h an two yea r s.

Prior to th i s, he spent n early two d e cades in tel e communica t ions or relat e d industrie s . This includ e d holding the positi o ns of Vice P r esident & General Man a ger of Glob a l Industries w ith Electron i c Data Syst e ms Corporati o n in the U.S. and Executive Vice Pre s ident at AT Kearney.

Mr Nason held senior leadership p o sitions at C o opers & Ly b rand and K P MG where h is area of s p eciality was Communi c ations, Media and Enter t ainment in A ustralia and overseas. H e joined the Foxtel Boar d of Directors in March 2012 and was named Chair m an in May 2 012.

Mr Thode y said replac e ment arran g ements for M r Nason w o uld be dete r mined in th e near future. Mr Nason will contin u e in his role for several m onths then provide tran s ition suppor t and other a ssistance within the business, including m a intaining his FOXTEL re s ponsibilities, before leaving in Octob e r.
