MEDIA RELEASE
Gordon Ballantyne to leave Telstra
7 October 2015 - Telstra Retail Group Executive, Gordon Ballantyne, will leave Telstra in December after more than five years helping deliver significant growth for the business.
A seasoned global technology executive, Mr Ballantyne joined Telstra as Consumer Group Managing Director in June 2010, before taking the newly created role of Chief Customer Officer across all customer segments of consumer, business, enterprise and government in July 2012.
Mr Ballantyne has been Retail Group Executive since October 2013, leading an $18 billion portfolio including consumer, business, media and marketing divisions, as well as creating the growth division Telstra Health. During his term, Telstra Retail delivered more than $2 billion in topline revenue growth and had been transformed into a customer-led organisation.
Telstra CEO Andrew Penn today thanked Mr Ballantyne for his service and contribution to the leadership of the organisation, including the turnaround of Telstra’s retail business to world recognised performance across fixed broadband and mobile products.
“Gordon has been an outstanding Group Executive and thought leader. His commitment to our people has been instrumental in driving cultural change for our customers, and his capacity to drive growth has been reflected in the performance of the business,” Mr Penn said.
"Gordon led the turnaround and growth of our retail business as well as creating exciting new growth ventures such as Telstra Health. He has brought a challenger mindset and a passion for the customer to everything he has done and his leadership will be missed.”
Mr Ballantyne said he planned to enjoy a break before exploring new opportunities.
“It has been a great privilege to be a part of the leadership team that set out to change the way every Australian talked about this iconic brand. The Telstra of five years ago is almost unrecognisable from the Telstra of today and I am very proud of what we have created,” he said.
“I have loved this job and its people. I will forever be a Telstra advocate, but I am also looking forward with excitement to the next challenge.”
During his time at Telstra, Mr Ballantyne held roles as Chairman of Telstra Clear New Zealand, Vice Chairman of CSL Limited Hong Kong and a Non-Executive Director of Foxtel Pty Ltd.
Mr Ballantyne joined Telstra from Hewlett Packard where he was Vice President UK and Ireland. He has two decades of experience in global telecommunications and technology, serving as UK Director of T-Mobile and founder of dell.com and then Dell Ventures in Europe.
Mr Ballantyne will remain in the business until the end of the year to provide transitional support and assistance. New arrangements will be announced shortly.
