Margaret Seale to join Telstra Board

7 May 2012 – The Telstra Board today announced the appointment of Margaret (Margie) Seale as a nonexecutive Director. Ms Seale has served in senior executive roles in Australia and overseas, primarily in the global publishing industry, during a career spanning more than 30 years.

Telstra Chairman Catherine Livingstone acknowledged Ms Seale’s experience in global publishing and the transition of traditional business models to adapt and thrive in a digital environment.

Ms Seale is Managing Director Australia and New Zealand for publishing company Random House as well as President, Asia Development. She has experience in senior sales and marketing roles across a number of sectors.

“Margie has valuable insights into the digital environment and the management of intellectual property here and overseas. We are very pleased that Margie will join the Telstra Board,” Ms Livingstone said.

Ms Seale said she looked forward to contributing to the Telstra Board’s deliberations in relation to digital business and business in the Asia-Pacific region. “I’m delighted to be joining the Board at a time when Telstra is seeking to take advantage of digital opportunities from its strong portfolio of businesses.”

Random House is the trade book publishing division of Bertelsmann AG, one of the world’s largest media companies. Ms Seale joined Random House in 2000, became Australia and NZ Managing Director in 2007 and took on the Asian development responsibility in 2010. Her role includes evaluating business opportunities in south-east and northern Asia. She established Random House’s China office in 2011.

Ms Seale previously held roles as CEO of Macquarie Dictionary and Lansdowne Publishing and senior sales and marketing positions in Australia and the United Kingdom.

She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and History from the University of Sydney. She is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Director of the Sydney Writers Festival and a Council Member of Chief Executive Women.

Her appointment is effective 7 May 2012 and subject to shareholder approval at Telstra’s next annual general meeting.
