Telekom Slovenije, d.d., concludes a loan agreement with the European Investment Bank for continued upgrade of its fibre optic access network

Pursuant to the provisions of the Rules of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange and the valid legislation, Telekom Slovenije, d.d., Cigaletova 15, Ljubljana, hereby publishes the following notification:

Today, on 17 December 2020, Telekom Slovenije, d.d., concluded a loan agreement with the European Investment Bank for providing up to EUR 100 million in long-term loans that will allow the company to finance continued expansion and upgrade of its fibre optic access network with gigabit speeds throughout 2023.

Lilyana Pavlova, Vice President of the EIB, in charge of Slovenian operations, said: “The COVID-19 pandemic showed us that reliable and fast internet connection are a must for normal functioning of our societies. From providing information, entertainment and linking us with our families and friends, Internet allowed us to continue with our education or to maintain our businesses by working from home or by continuing to trade on-line. Our investment in Telekom Slovenije, d.d., is a contribution to the increased quality of life and doing business in Slovenia and allows the country accelerate digitalization and modernization. For the EIB, this operation reinforces our pledge to support sustainable, long-term economic and social development of Slovenia.”

“Telekom Slovenije, d.d., manages the biggest and most modern fibre optics network in Slovenia, available to more than 360,000 Slovenian households. We are constantly expanding and upgrading our network with new technologies in order to provide users with cutting-edge telecommunication services. Our state of the art fibre optic access network is preparing the infrastructural foundations for future telecommunications activities, in accordance with country’s vision and our network development strategy,” said Tomaž Seljak, MSc., President of the Management Board of Telekom Slovenije, d.d.

Telekom Slovenije, d.d., will continue to build its state of the art fibre optic access network both in urban centres, as well as in rural areas, including those, where there was no market interest (so-called white spots), or where there was a market interest, but no network has yet been built. This allows Telekom Slovenije, d.d., to provide internet access and communication services also in more remote and sparsely populated areas.

The fibre optic access network that Telekom Slovenije, d.d., is building (also as a replacement of its copper access network), provides users with high-speed internet access and a state-of-the-art broadband content experience.

This notification will be available on the website of Telekom Slovenije, d. d. (www.telekom.si) for at least 5 years from the date of publication.
