The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– Vienna, April 30, 2001- Telekom Austria AG (VSE: TKA; NYSE: TKA) announced today its results for the first quarter 2001. Total managed figures of Telekom Austria Group (which include Mobilkom Austria) grew by 2.3% to EUR 967.4mn (1Q 2000: EUR 945.9mn). Total managed EBITDA rose by 7.1% to EUR 374.6mn (1Q 2000: EUR 349.8mn). With a view to a transparent presentation of the Group’s operating results, EBITDA will be reported exclusive of idle work force expenses beginning with the first quarter 2001. These expenses amounted to EUR 3.9 million in the first quarter 2001 and did not occur in the first quarter 2000. In the fixed line segment revenues fell due to intensified competition by 6.3% to EUR 638.8mn (1Q 2000: EUR 682.1mn). Due to successful cost cutting measures EBITDA remained with EUR 210.0mn almost stable at the level of 1Q 2000 (EUR 211.8mn). In mobile communications, which essentially include the activities of Mobilkom Austria in Austria, Croatia and Slovenia revenues rose by 21.5% to EUR 411.9mn (1Q 2000: EUR 339.0mn) and EBITDA by 32.8% to EUR 159mn (1Q 2000: EUR 119.7mn). In data communications, especially the growth in bundled products and enterprise solutions contributed to a 10% increase in revenues to EUR 73.6mn (1Q 2000: EUR 66.9mn). EBITDA fell due to higher prices for intersegmental services to EUR 7.9mn (1Q 2000: EUR 15.1mn). The Internet business is reported as an individual segment for the first time. Revenues reached EUR 18.5mn (1Q 2000: EUR 12.9mn) and EBITDA amounted to EUR – 2.3mn (1Q 2000: EUR 3.2mn). The consolidated figures of Telekom Austria according to US-GAAP which include Mobilkom Austria at-equity show for the first quarter 2001 revenues of EUR 666.8mn (1Q 2000: EUR 714.9mn). Operating results fell from EUR 16.2mn in 1Q 2000 to EUR – 9.5mn in 1Q 2001 and net income during the same period from EUR 14.0mn to EUR 10.3mn.
