The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– Vienna, August 23, 2001 – Telekom Austria (VSE: TKA; NYSE: TKA) announced today headline figures for its financial results for the first half 2001. Total managed revenue figures of Telekom Austria Group (including Mobilkom Austria) registered an increase by 0.6% to EUR 1,935.3mn (1 HY 2000: EUR 1,923.0mn). Total managed EBITDA rose by 10.1% to EUR 704.6mn (1 HY 2000: EUR 640.0mn). The consolidated revenues of Telekom Austria AG which include Mobilkom Austria at equity decreased by 6.4% to EUR 1,329.6mn in the first half of the business year 2001 (1 HY 2000: EUR 1,420.9 mn). EBITDA fell by 5.4% to EUR 415.0mn (1 HY 2000: EUR 438.5mn). Mobilkom Austria reported an increase in consolidated revenues by 15.8% to EUR 822.5mn (1HY 2000: EUR 710.4mn). EBITDA rose by 43.7% to EUR 289.6mn (1HY 2000: EUR 201.5mn). EBITDA is derived from operating income excluding depreciation, amortisation and costs for idle workforce. Costs for idle workforce include expenses for employees who have been taken out of the work process and all reimbursements once civil servants have agreed to leave with a golden handshake. In the first half 2001 the costs for idle workforce amounted to EUR 18.3mn. In the same period of the previous year there was no equivalent for this. 2000 half-year figures were restated due to a reallocation of items from other non-operating to operating income/expense. Since the beginning of the business year 2001 other non-operating income/expense has not been included in the calculation of EBITDA and EBIT, compared to the previous year’s figures. All figures for the six month period ended June 2000 are shown on a restated basis.
