Birdstep Signs EasyConnect Agreement with Cell C
(Oslo, 30 September 2010) Birdstep Technology ASA has
signed an agreement for EasyConnect with Cell C.
Birdstep Technology, a leading provider of wireless
connectivity and security software, has signed an
agreement for EasyConnect Go and Advanced with Cell C,
a leading mobile operator in South Africa for its
recently launched mobile broadband product.
EasyConnect Go will be implemented in phase 1 and then
upgraded to Advanced in phase 2. Birdstep estimates
the revenue amount to be NOK 2 million over the next 2
years. Cell C launched their GSM service in 2001 and
is South Africa's third largest cellular operator with
just under seven million subscribers.
EasyConnect will be customized for Cell C, pre-
installed on USB mobile broadband devices for pre-paid
and post-paid solutions and sold through Cell C's
direct and indirect sales channel.
EasyConnect Go is an advanced and customizable
connection management software solution for
installation on USB devices, providing users with an
improved mobile broadband user experience.
EasyConnect Advanced enables automatic and apparent
seamless 3G off-load to WiFi.
Cell C is the first cellular operator in South Africa
to roll out a HSPA+ network. Cell C currently covers
more than 30% of South Africa's geographic area and
87% of the population in such area.
With the Birdstep Connection Manager, Cell C will
ensure that all of their customers have the same
unified basis for a positive user experience, and at
the same time reduce its overall cost of support.
