Rapid growth in 1st Quarter of 2000 b.. Turnover up by 125%, total output by 93% Business for SW Umwelttechnik Stoiser & Wolschner AG in the first quarter of 2000 was buoyant. Compared to the first quarter of 1999, turnover was up 125% to EUR 8.5 mn (ATS 116.3 mn) and total output by 93% to EUR 9.1 mn (ATS 125.1 mn). The reason for this excellent performance was the good progress of the two newly consolidated Group companies (both acquired in 1999) – Strong (Hungary) and Stadlbauer Umwelttechnik (Austria), as well as strong order books and the much more favourable weather conditions in the first quarter compared with last year. Of the turnover, 57% originates in Hungary and 43% in Austria. The earnings position in the first quarter of 2000 is also highly encouraging. Despite the rapid expansion of the Group, both EBIT and POA are nearly at the same level as in the like period of last year in absolute terms. The negative EBIT margin, typical for the first quarter, narrowed from -28.8% in 1999 to -11.9% in 2000. High capacity utilization, and indications of increased orders for the Group’s environmental engineering business sector in Hungary were the main factors behind this trend. The SW Umwelttechnik Group is continuing to pursue its growth strategy in 2000. It will be aiming to: a.. Take advantage of favourable market conditions in the CEE countries b.. Develop niche markets through product innovation (e.g. Aquamax) c.. Exploit the earnings potential offered by the Internet d.. Make strategic acquisitions for the core business sectors In the light of this strategy, Management sees turnover for 2000 growing by at least EUR 58 mn (ATS 800 mn), and earnings increasing significantly.
