The group also expects a growth in terms of turnover by more than 25% in this core business area in the year 1999. With the acquisition of Biogest and OMS Hungaria the SW Umwelttechnik group is one of the most important suppliers of biological sewage treatment plants in Central Europe as well as market leader of sewage treatment plants up until a inhabitant equivalence of 20.000 in Austria and Hungaria. It is also planned to strengthen considerably the market position in the Czech Republic and Poland. Due to environmental regulations within the European Union there will be enormous capital expenditure requirements in Austria and especially within those Central European countries willing to join the European Union in the next few years. At the moment the percentage of households connected to sewage treatment plants are still well below European minimum standards. The percentage of connection in Austria has to be risen from now 75% to 92%, and e.g. in Hungaria from now 55% to 86%. During the last 10 years it was possible to raise the percentage of connection from 40% to only 55% in Hungaria. In the next years EU standards will lead to a drastic increase in environmental investments. Therefore SW Umwelttechnik expects further growth in this core business area sewage treatment technology. Auch für das Geschäftsjahr 1999 erwartet das Unternehmen ein Umsatzwachstum in diesem Kernbereich von über 25%. Mit den beiden Konzernunternehmen Biogest und OMS Hungaria zählt SW Umwelttechnik zu den wichtigsten Anbietern von biologischen Kläranlagen im zentraleuropäischen Raum und ist Marktführer bei Anlagen bis 20.000 EGW in Österreich und Ungarn. In Tschechien und Polen ist ein weiterer Ausbau der Marktposition geplant. In den nächsten Jahren wird der Investitionsbedarf in Österreich und insbesondere in den EU-beitrittswilligen Staaten in Zentraleuropa aufgrund von EU-Umweltrichtlinien stark zunehmen. Derzeit liegen die Anschlußgrade der Haushalte an Kläranlagen noch weit unter dem EU- Mindeststandard. In Österreich muß der Anschlußgrad von derzeit 75% auf 92% erhöht werden und z.B. in Ungarn von derzeit 55% auf 86%. In den letzten 10 Jahren konnte in Ungarn eine Anhebung des Anschlußgrades von 40% auf nur 55% erreicht werden. Die EU-Richtlinien werden daher zu einer drastischen Steigerung der Umweltinvestionen führen, aufgrund derer SW Umwelttechnik auch für die nächsten Jahre weiteres Wachstum im Kernbereich Klärtechnik erwartet.
