Appointment of Non-Executive Director to the Suncorp Board
The Board of Suncorp Group Limited has today announced the appointment of Duncan West as a non-executive director.
Mr West has almost 40 years’ experience in the general insurance and broader financial services industry, both in Australia and internationally.
Suncorp Group Chairman Christine McLoughlin said that Mr West will bring a wealth of industry knowledge to the Board.
“The Board will benefit from Duncan’s perspective and first-hand experience in financial services, notably in commercial and personal lines insurance, reinsurance and banking, as well as his deep understanding of the regulatory environments in Australia and New Zealand,” Ms McLoughlin said.
Mr West has held chief executive roles at a range of insurers including CGU Insurance Ltd and Vero Insurance Ltd, and was also Executive General Manager of Insurance for NAB Wealth and MLC. He previously worked with Royal Insurance in its UK and Indian operations.
He is a past President of the Australia and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance.
Mr West’s appointment as a director will take effect on 23 September 2021 following registration under the Banking Executive Accountability Regime (BEAR). He will stand for election by shareholders at Suncorp’s Annual General Meeting on that day.
Mr West will retire from his current roles as Chairman of The Hollard Insurance Company (from 23 September 2021) and Lawcover Insurance (from 30 September 2021). He will remain a director of Challenger Limited, Genworth Mortgage Insurance Australia, Avant Group Holdings and Avant Insurance. Mr West will also continue his role as Chairman of Habitat for Humanity Australia. His career history is provided in Attachment One.
