Appointment of Tantalum Egypt JSC Directors
Gippsland Limited today announces that His Excellency Eng Sameh Fahmy, The Minister of the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has nominated two Egyptian Directors to the board of Tantalum Egypt JSC, the Egyptian registered joint venture company which owns Mining Licences for the 40 million tonne Abu Dabbab and the 98 million tonne Nuweibi tantalum deposits. The appointments took effect on 10 April 2007.
The gentlemen concerned, Mr Fekry Mohamed Youssef and Mr Hammed Abu Al Fotooh. have both been closely involved in the development of the Egyptian petroleum and mining sectors, particularly with respect to attracting foreign investment to Egypt.
Gippsland Executive Chairman stated "We are particularly pleased that HE Eng Sameh Fahmy has nominated such highly respected and experienced professionals to the Tantalum Egypt board. The Gippsland team looks forward to working with Mr Fekry and Mr Hammed in bringing the Abu Dabbab project to fruition as a major tantalum producer."
Gippsland is represented on the 4-member Tantalum Eqypt board by Dr John M Chisholm and Mr Robert John Telford (Executive Chairman).
The 40 million tonne Abu Dabbab project is scheduled to commence production during the first quarter of 2009. Based upon an initial mill-feed rate of 2Mtpa, the project is scheduled to produce 650,000 pounds of tantalum pentoxide (Ta2O5) and 1,530 tonnes of LME grade tin metal per year. The Abu Dabbab and Nuweibi deposits have a combined in-situ content of approximately 53 million pounds of Ta2O5 and 35,000 tonnes of tin metal.
