Byron Grote to join Standard Chartered PLC Board
The Board of Directors (the "Board") of Standard Chartered PLC (the "Company") today announces the appointment of Byron Elmer Grote as an independent Non-Executive Director from 1 July 2014.
Byron (aged 66) is an experienced non-executive director who has strong finance, commercial and risk management credentials. He also has substantial international experience, across Asia Pacific and Africa. Byron worked for over 25 years at BP plc across a variety of commercial, operational and executive roles, including nine years as Chief Financial Officer. He stepped down from the Board of BP plc in April 2013. Byron is a Non-Executive Director of Unilever plc/Unilever NV, Anglo American plc and a member of the Supervisory Board of Akzo Nobel NV.
Byron's appointment is part of the Board's ongoing multi-year succession planning exercise designed to enhance the experience, depth and diversity of the Board and its Committees. As previously announced, two of our long standing independent Non-Executive Directors, Rudy Markham and Jamie Dundas, stepped down from the Board in May 2014 and Oliver Stocken will step down by the end of the year.

REMUNERATION STATEMENT IN RELATION TO BOARD CHANGE
Remuneration statement in relation to Byron Elmer Grote
The independent Non-Executive Directors do not participate in any of the Group's incentive arrangements. Byron will receive a fee of GBP 100,000 for his services as a Non-Executive Director. This is disclosed in accordance with the Rules Governing the Listing of Securities on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited (the "Hong Kong Listing Rules").
Additional information
Byron Grote has no relationship with any other Director, member of senior management or substantial or controlling shareholder of Standard Chartered PLC.
Byron Grote holds 7,000 ordinary shares in the Company.
There is no other information to be disclosed under the requirements of UK Listing Rule 9.6.13 (1-6) and Rule 13.51(2) of the Hong Kong Listing Rules in relation to Byron Grote's appointment which has received the necessary regulatory approval.
