Non-Executive Director changes
The Board of Directors (the "Board") of Standard Chartered PLC (the "Company") today announces the appointment of two new independent Non-Executive Directors and a Senior Independent Director.
This is part of the second phase of the Board's multi-year succession planning exercise to enhance the experience, depth and diversity of the Board, as outlined in the 2011 and 2012 Annual Report and Accounts.
Board changes
Dr Kurt Michael Campbell (aged 55) is appointed as an independent Non-Executive Director with immediate effect. Dr Campbell has a wealth of experience of the US political environment and significant experience of some of our key markets, notably across Asia. He is currently Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Asia Group LLC, a strategic advisory and investment group specialising in the Asia Pacific region. From 2009 to 2013, Dr Campbell served as the US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, and he was awarded the US Secretary of State's Distinguished Service Award in 2013, the highest diplomatic honour.
Mrs Christine Mary Hodgson (aged 48) is appointed as an independent Non-Executive Director from 1 September 2013. Mrs Hodgson brings strong business leadership, accounting, finance and technology experience to the Board. She is currently the Chair of Capgemini UK plc, part of one of the world's largest IT and professional services companies. Mrs Hodgson joined Capgemini in 1997 and has held a variety of roles including CFO for Capgemini UK plc and CEO of Technology Services North West Europe. She is also a Non-Executive Director of Ladbroke plc.
Ms Ruth Markland is appointed as Senior Independent Director from 1 July 2013. Ms Markland has been an independent Non-Executive Director of the Company since 2003 and has chaired the Remuneration Committee since 2006. She replaces Mr Rudy Markham who, as stated in the 2012 Annual Report and Accounts, will be stepping down from the Board by the 2014 Annual General Meeting.

The appointments have received the necessary regulatory approval.

The key terms and relevant information of these appointments are set out below and are disclosed in accordance with the Rules Governing the Listing of Securities on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited (the "Hong Kong Listing Rules").
Dr Campbell and Mrs Hodgson will each receive fees of £100,000 per annum for appointment as Non-Executive Director to the Board, with additional fees payable for appointment to Board Committees. Non-Executive Directors do not have service contracts. All Directors are subject to annual re-election by the Company's shareholders.
Dr Campbell and Mrs Hodgson do not have any interest in shares in the Company within the meaning of Part XV of the Securities and Futures Ordinance.
Dr Campbell and Mrs Hodgson have no relationship with any directors, senior management or substantial shareholder of the Company.
Save as disclosed above, there is no other information to be disclosed pursuant to any of the requirements under Rule 13.51(2) of the Hong Kong Listing Rules.
