Standard Chartered PLC announces the retirement of Sir CK Chow from the Board with effect from the conclusion of the next Annual General Meeting on 7 May 2008

The Board of Directors of Standard Chartered PLC announced today that Sir CK Chow, 57, will retire from the Board with effect from the conclusion of the next Annual General Meeting on 7 May 2008. He has been a non-executive director since 1997.

Mervyn Davies, Chairman of Standard Chartered PLC, said: “Sir CK has served for more ten years on the Board of Standard Chartered PLC and I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his valuable contribution to the Company and wish him every success in the future. Sir CK will continue to be non-executive Chairman of Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited”.

Sir CK Chow has confirmed that there is nothing which needs to be brought to the attention of the holders of securities of Standard Chartered PLC in respect of his retirement.
