STADA Acquires Three Vinca-Alkaloid Oncological Products from Lilly Ad-hoc-announcement transmitted by DGAP. The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– STADA Arzneimittel AG has today acquired marketing rights in select European countries for three vinca-alkaloid oncological products (drugs for treating cancer) from the pharmaceutical firm Eli Lilly and Company. The estimated 2002 EU sales revenue thus acquired by STADA for the three products is approximately EUR 5 million (of which Germany accounts for approximately EUR 0.8 million). STADA will assume exclusive local marketing rights for the products Eldisine (active ingredient: Vindesin), Oncovin (active ingredient: Vincristin) and Velbe (active ingredient: Vinblastin) used in the treatment of various cancers for 15 countries in the entire European Union. STADA can rely on a product supply by Lilly on the basis of third-party-manufacturing contracts for up to three years. Through its purchase of the three oncological products, STADA is strengthening its core segment of special pharmaceuticals, which is still an emerging segment in the Group (actually making up 3% of Group sales), and is taking its first step toward internationalization of this business field. Sales of the newly acquired products shall initially be conducted by STADAs local sales companies in the countries covered by this agreement. That will establish the initial structures for special pharmaceuticals sales in each location. In the first quarter of 2002, STADA Arzneimittel AG, listed on the MDAX index, recorded sales of EUR 152.7 million (+13% compared for the prior year) and a net income of EUR 11.1 million (+23% compared for the prior year). The growth of the three core segments (generics, brands and special pharmaceuticals) in the first quarter 2002 reached +23% in the Group.
