New, Small Supercharger Developed
-
Current supercharger range extended with the development of a smaller supercharger
-
Targeted for use on engines with a capacity of 0.4 to 1.2litres
-
Developed in-house at Sprintex’s Perth R&D facility
-
Intended to be built in volume at Sprintex’s dedicated Malaysian production facility
Sprintex is pleased to announce that in response to industry trends for engine downsizing, a new smaller supercharger, the S5-100, has been developed to suit engine capacities of less than 1.2 litres.
Industry statistics show that more than 40% of new cars manufactured in Japan are ‘Kei’ cars. Kei cars are limited in physical size and are not permitted to use an engine of more than 0.66 litre capacity. In China, over 70% of all cars produced used engines of less than 1.5 litres. Automotive industry analysts Frost and Sullivan predict that by 2016, 95% of all cars produced worldwide will be powered by engines of less than 2.0 litres capacity.
The development of the new supercharger is a major achievement for the Company as it not only extends the range of supercharger applications to the growing small engine segment of the market, but also validates the Company’s business plan of rapid development of new products and applications from its dedicated R&D facility in Australia.
larger superchargers of the Company and notable, considering the inherent lower efficiency of smaller capacity superchargers.
Production tooling will be developed to enable mass production of the new S5-100 from the Company’s dedicated production facility in Malaysia.
The S5-100 supercharger is remarkably compact, offering enhanced engine packaging options for smaller vehicles such as Kei cars and motorcycles.
The expansion of the supercharger range allows Sprintex superchargers to be applied to a wider range of applications, including discretionary spend products such as motorcycles, quad bikes, and other all-terrain vehicles (“ATVs”), as well as allowing Sprintex to continue focusing on supplying products to a global market which, due to regulatory pressure, is increasingly utilising smaller engines to achieve reduced fuel consumption, reduced noxious exhaust emissions and reduced carbon dioxide production.
Testing of the new model has achieved volumetric efficiency of more than 96%, comparable with the
