Für den Inhalt der Mitteilung ist allein der Emittent verantwortlich. —————————————————————————— Splendid Medien AG finanziert zusammen mit amerikanischer Tochtergesellschaft IEG und Walt Disney größte Independentproduktion der Filmgeschichte – Walt Disney produziert mit Martin Scorsese das Filmprojekt “Gangs of New York” mit Leonardo DiCaprio als Hauptdarsteller – IEG besitzt Weltrechte außerhalb der USA – Splendid erwirbt Rechte für sämtliche europäische Schlüsselmärkte Köln/Frankfurt/Los Angeles, 24 November 1999 — Die auf den internationalen Film-Lizenzhandel spezialisierte, seit September 1999 am Neuen Markt der Frankfurter Wertpapierbörse notierte Splendid Medien AG, Köln, beteiligt sich zusammen mit ihrer in Los Angeles ansässigen amerikanischen Tochtergesellschaft Initial Entertainment Group (IEG) mit 65 Millionen Dollar an dem neuen Filmprojekt “Gangs of New York” von Martin Scorsese mit Leonardo DiCaprio in der Hauptrolle. Als Koproduzent des Filmprojektes tragen die Walt Disney Studios, Los Angeles, den restlichen Teil der auf insgesamt 100 Millionen Dollar veranschlagten Produktionskosten. Damit konnten Splendid und IEG als erste unabhängige Produktionsgesellschaft in Zusammenarbeit mit Partnern ein Filmprojekt dieser Größenordnung realisieren. Der dieser Vereinbarung zugrunde liegende Vertrag wurde von Graham King, Produktionsvorstand der Splendid Medien AG und Chief Executive Officer der IEG, mit Joe Roth, Chairman der Walt Disney Studios, abgeschlossen. Die Vermarktung von “Gangs of New York” in Nordamerika wird der Gesellschaft Miramax übertragen, einem Tochterunternehmen von Walt Disney Co. Der Drehbeginn des Films, mit dessen Realisierung die Walt Disney Studios betraut wurden, ist für April 2000 in den Cinecitta Studios in Rom festgelegt. Im Rahmen der Kooperation mit Disney hat die IEG die weltweiten Rechte an “Gangs of New York” außerhalb des US-amerikanischen Marktes erworben. Splendid sicherte sich in diesem Zusammenhang die Rechte für den deutschsprachigen Raum sowie für weitere europäische Schlüsselmärkte. Dies gab Andreas R. Klein, Vorsitzender des Vorstands der Splendid Medien AG, in einer Stellungnahme anläßlich der Vertragsunterzeichnung bekannt. Klein hob hervor, daß sowohl Splendid wie auch IEG mit dem Erwerb der Weltrechte am erwarteten finanziellen Erfolg von “Gangs of New York” in allen Ländern der Welt partizipieren. Die Kombination aus einem der bedeutendsten Regisseure mit einem der derzeit erfolgreichsten Schauspieler macht diese Produktion nach Ansicht von Klein zu einem “Jahrhundertprojekt”. Entsprechend hoch ist bereits zum gegenwärtigen Zeitpunkt die weltweite Nachfrage. In Japan konnte die IEG zum Beispiel für den Weiterverkauf der Rechte an “Gangs of New York” den Rekordpreis von 16 Millionen Dollar erzielen. Cologne/Frankfurt/Los Angeles, November 24, 1999 — Together with its American subsidiary Initial Entertainment Group (IEG), Splendid Medien AG, Cologne, specialist in international film license trading and listed on the Neuer Markt of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in September 1999, finances the new Martin Scorsese film “Gangs of New York” starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Both Splendid and IEG, will contribute $65 million to the project with estimated production costs of $100 million. Walt Disney Studios, Los Angeles, will finance the remainder of the budget. Splendid and IEG are the first independent producers, in co-operation with partners, to produce a film project of this size. The contract for this deal was signed by Graham King, Splendid board member responsible for productions and Chief Executive Officer of IEG, and Joe Roth, Chairman of the Walt Disney Studios. Miramax Films will be distributing “Gangs of New York” in North America. Developed by Walt Disney Studios, the picture is scheduled to go before the cameras in April 2000 at Cinecitta studios in Rome. In the deal with Disney, IEG acquired world-wide rights for “Gangs of New York” outside the US market with Splendid taking all German speaking rights as well as key European markets. In a statement by Andreas Klein, Chief Operation Officer of Splendid Medien AG, following the signing of the agreement, Klein highlighted that Splendid as well as IEG will participate in the expected financial success of “Gangs of New York” in all countries of the world. The coupling of one of the most important and talented directors with one of today’s most successful actors makes this production, according to Klein, a “once a lifetime” project. Due to this fact, there is high demand from buyers around the world. IEG has successfully closed a licensing rights deal for “Gangs of New York” in Japan for a record price of $16 million. With Splendid Medien AG and IEG co-financing “Gangs of New York”, Klein is convinced that the company will develop into a leading international co-producer and world distributor and as a result, Splendid will realise the connected world-wide earnings potentials.
