SPIE signs an agreement to acquire WirliebenKabel in Germany Strengthening optic fibre roll-out capabilities
Ratingen, April 22nd 2021 - SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, announces an agreement for the acquisition of WirliebenKabel in Germany.
With the acquisition of the WirliebenKabel Group (the company's name means "we love cables" in German), SPIE strengthens its capabilities in the optic fibre broadband network roll-out market (FttX) in Germany. As a general contractor for broadband development and infrastructures, WirliebenKabel carries out FttX projects from planning and cable laying to documentation. WirliebenKabel is headquartered in Zeulenroda-Triebes in Thuringia and is present at ten other locations throughout Germany. The company employs around 130 highly qualified employees and generated revenue of €25 million in 2020.
Markus Holzke, Managing Director of SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa commented: "With WirliebenKabel we are gaining a strong team with tremendous expertise in broadband development. We are very pleased to further expand into the rapidly growing FttX market with the existing management team lead by Managing Director Hermann Hertling-Greifeneder as well as Carsten Zipfel and Christoph Kiehm, and the company's 130 employees. Together with WirliebenKabel, we see ourselves well positioned for the considerable market potential in broadband expansion and for the increasing demand for general contractor models, which already cover the planning phase."
Dr. Dirk Pramann, Managing Director of WirliebenKabel: "WirliebenKabel implements broadband roll-out throughout Germany with many years of experience, exceptional expertise and a great deal of passion. As a general contractor for broadband expansion, the company works for almost all of the larger telecommunications network operators. I am very pleased to have found in SPIE a responsible partner for our customers, business partners and employees which, together with WirliebenKabel, has the right answer ready for future market developments."

The closing of the transaction is expected to take place by the end of May 2021 and is only subject to approval by the antitrust authorities.
