ASX Release MGM Wireless Ltd

November 2, 2016

Wins Queensland Govt contract Substantial expansion opportunity

  • MGM Wireless wins contract with Queensland Department of Education

  • New policy mandates same-day notification of unexplained absences

  • Every school must promptly inform every parent

  • Government funding for new school notification solutions already in place

School messaging and software specialist MGM Wireless (ASX: MWR) announces that the Company has been selected and contracted by the Queensland Department of Education as a Standing Offer Arrangement supplier to all Queensland State, Independent and Catholic Schools for the provision of the Company’s Absence Management and Parent Notification solutions.

MGM Wireless is one of an initial group of four successful tenderers for the contract[1] , which was the result of new government policy requiring every one of the State’s schools to provide parents with same-day notification of any unexplained student absence, beginning from day one of the new school year 2017. The Standing Offer Arrangement has a three-year term, expiring in October 2019.

MGM Wireless Executive Chairman Mark Fortunatow said that the contract has the potential to be the most significant contract opportunity yet secured by the Company. The exact impact of the contract at this stage is unknown and will depend on many factors including market acceptance of MGM products and services, competitor activity and the capacity to install new systems within contract timeframes.

“The Queensland Government under Premier the Hon Annastacia Palaszczuk is to be commended for this proactive demonstration of commitment to student welfare,” said Mr Fortunatow. “The leadership shown by the government to mandate same-day notification is very positive for student safety and welfare as well as the obvious benefits in respect of student learning and achievement outcomes.

1 MGM Wireless understands that over time, up to a total of eight contractors may be engaged by the Queensland Department of Education.

“We are very excited to be selected and have the opportunity to work with the Queensland Department of Education in this new initiative,” Mr Fortunatow said.

“For MGM Wireless this represents a wonderful business opportunity. There are 1,736 schools in Queensland for which this new policy applies, whereas currently we service approximately 60 schools across the State.”

Approximately 500 schools are private, Independent or Catholic schools, all now eligible to purchase notification systems under the Standing Offer Arrangement.

“With the conclusion of the school year being around two months away, we are focussed on mobilising to capitalise on this opportunity and to provide an impeccable quality of service,” Mr Fortunatow said. “As one of four successful tenderers who will operate under the new Standing Offer Arrangement, we expect this contract will lead to significant increases in our schools under contract.”
