Awards
Southern Cross Electrical Engineering Limited (“SCEE Group”) is pleased to announce that various subsidiaries have received a range of awards in the renewable energy, education, and water sectors, as detailed below.
Steel River East Battery Energy Storage System
SCEE Electrical announces that, following the successful completion of an Early Contractor Involvement (“ECI”) phase, it has been awarded the detailed engineering scope by PLUS Grid Storage Partnership (“PLUS GS”) and is progressing through the final commercial stages for the Steel River East Battery Energy Storage System (“BESS”) project in Newcastle being built on Ausgrid’s NSW network. This project forms part of PLUS GS’s initiative to enable the development of grid-scale BESS sites across the distribution network and represents one of the first large-scale, distributionconnected deployments in NSW.
The scope of works Includes:
-
Procurement of long-lead items.
-
Progression of engineering to 100% completion.
-
Construction commencement upon receipt of State Significant Development Approval.
SCEE Electrical will leverage the expertise of other SCEE Group businesses, including Trivantage Manufacturing for switchboards, MDE for communications, SEME Security for security, and Force Fire for fire systems.
The Steel River East project is expected to complete in mid-2027. This milestone follows SCEE Electrical’s successful delivery of the Synergy 500MW/2,000MWh BESS project in Collie, WA.

Comment
Commenting on the above, SCEE Group Managing Director Graeme Dunn said “I am pleased to be announcing another award in the renewable energy sector so soon after our recent delivery of Synergy’s Collie BESS project.
What is particularly pleasing, echoing my observation in our announcement to the ASX on 16 December 2025 of the awards of the DigiCo SDY1 Data Centre and Sydney Metro St Mary’s Station projects, is that in this Steel River East BESS project we will also be drawing on multiple businesses from across the group to the benefit of ourselves and our clients.
As these three projects exemplify, the SCEE Group has huge exposures to the three structural tailwinds of data centres, infrastructure and electrification, and our ability to leverage offerings in them across multiple disciplines will be a strong competitive advantage.”
