Snam and China's Beijing Gas sign a Memorandum of Understanding
Venice, 25 October 2018 – Snam, Europe's leading natural gas utility, signed a Memorandum of Understanding today with Beijing Gas, China's largest natural gas distributor and supplier, with a network extension of 22,000 kilometers and over 6 million customers in the Beijing area. The MoU was signed by Snam CEO Marco Alverà and Ms. Li Yalan, Beijing Gas Chairperson of the Board of Directors, on the sidelines of the International Gas Union (IGU) Council in Venice.
Under the agreement, the companies will look at opportunities to collaborate in China, particularly in biomethane and natural gas storage.
"This initiative paves the way to Snam cooperation with Beijing Gas in the fields of new renewable energy sources and natural gas storage facilities. We are interested in developing projects in China, a country whose gas demand will triple between now and 2040 contributing to a more sustainable energy mix", commented Snam CEO Marco Alverà.
