Press Release: 13 August 2008

Mid-City Foundry Company combines forces with SinterCast to deliver Compacted Graphite Iron

  • Mid-City Foundry extends production capability to include CGI
  • Ongoing CGI production using SinterCast process control technology
  • Industrial power cylinder heads produced in CGI ranging from 100 to 550 kg

Mid-City Foundry Company (Milwaukee, USA) and SinterCast (Stockholm, Sweden) have joined forces to provide high quality Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) castings. Building on the trials conducted as early as 2004, Mid-City has increased its CGI product development and production activities, and currently produces numerous CGI cylinder heads and turbocharger housings with cast weights ranging from 100 to 550 kg (220# to 1200#). All of the cylinder heads and turbo castings produced at the Mid-City Foundry Company conform to the international ISO 16112 standard for Compacted Graphite Iron and are ultimately used in the demanding industrial power sector.

Mr Gary Baior, VP of Operations, Mid-City Foundry said: "We have worked together with SinterCast since 2004 and have combined their CGI process control know-how with our specialty alloy melting and molding experience to establish an efficient and robust CGI production process. As engine operating pressures continue to increase, particularly in the industrial power sector, we anticipate more opportunities for CGI growth in the future, and look forward to developing these opportunities together with SinterCast."

Dr S. Dawson, President & CEO of SinterCast said: "We congratulate Mid-City on establishing its CGI production process and securing these important initial production programmes. We will continue to provide engineering support from our technical office in the Chicago area and look forward to the opportunity for a permanent SinterCast installation as the Mid-City production volumes continue to increase."
