Tupy receives Compacted Graphite Iron series production order from DAF Trucks

• 12.9 litre commercial vehicle engine with CGI cylinder block and head
• Series production to begin in October at the Tupy Mauá foundry
• Engines to be used in PACCAR Group commercial vehicles

DAF Trucks N.V. of The Netherlands, a member of the global PACCAR group, has awarded Tupy of Brazil a production contract for the Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) cylinder block and head of its 12.9 litre sixcylinder 'MX' series commercial vehicle diesel engine. The CGI cylinder blocks and heads will be produced at the Tupy Mauá foundry using the Swedish SinterCast process control technology. With a combined weight of 575 kg, high volume series production of the DAF cylinder blocks and heads will begin during October 2008. The DAF 12.9 litre MX engine meets EURO 5 and US EPA 07 emissions legislation and will be used in trucks sold under the Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF nameplates in both the North American and European markets. The PACCAR group is a global technology leader in the design and manufacture of high quality light, medium and heavy-duty trucks with over 1.5 million vehicles in the field.

Tupy will continue to build on its CGI product development and series production experience to secure new production orders in both the passenger vehicle and commercial vehicle sectors and to lead the industrial trend toward CGI."
