SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES reports on a successful 28th EU PVSEC solar industry exhibition in Paris

Spotlight was on innovative plant engineering

Numerous project discussions for PERC upgrade and CIGS thin-film solar technology

Kahl am Main, October 08, 2013 – SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES AG (SINGULUS) is able to look back on a successful 28th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition (28th EU PVSEC), which took place in Paris from October 1 to 3.

The spotlight was on the two machines for the photovoltaic industry exhibited on the SINGULUS show stand: the vacuum coating machine SINGULAR XP, a production solution for the new passivated rear silicon solar cells (PERC; passivated emitter and rear cell). This solution was developed specifically for retrofitting to existing cell production lines. It can boost the efficiency of silicon solar cells to a figure of more than 20 %. Dr. Ing. Stefan Rinck, CEO of SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES AG, remarked: ‘The vacuum coating machine Singular XP is highly innovative and has a small footprint. On September 12, we were able to conclude a general agreement for 16 lines with M Cells.’ Dr.-Ing. Stefan Rinck continued: ‘The high level of interest at the EU PVSEC shows we are offering precisely the manufacturing technology that the market wants.’

SINGULUS also unveiled a development system in the TENUIS range; this can be used to develop and investigate alternative coating materials for CIGS thin-film solar cells. The new generation of TENIUS machines brings significant cost savings for the manufacture of high-performance CIS/CIGS thin-film solar cells. The new machine realizes high potential for savings in the manufacturing of thin-film solar cells.

For both areas of activity, i.e. for both crystalline solar cells and thin-film solar technology, a great many projects were discussed and preparations were already made for a number of agreements, which in totality give rise to hopes that the market situation in the photovoltaic sector is set to improve.

Innovative topics and concepts for improving efficiency and reducing costs were presented at the 28th EU PVSEC conference. The latest market figures were also released, indicating a continuing revival in the international PV market to more than 50 GW in 2015.

Profile SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES:

SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES develops innovative technologies for efficient production processes, which only make use of resources conservatively. New production technology combined with sustainable processes and the use of novel materials can decouple the use of resources from economic growth in the long-term. SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES’ innovative power and competitiveness are strengthened by these new technological developments.

With its Optical Disc segment SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES is the world market leader for CD, DVD and Blu-ray Disc production equipment. SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES is the only engineering company worldwide currently able to provide the machine technology for three-layer Blu-ray Discs with a storage volume of about 100 GB.

In the Solar division SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES is a recognized supplier of new machinery concepts and production processes for crystalline and thin-film solar cells, which increase the efficiency of solar cells and reduce their production costs. SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES IS establishing itself as a development partner and machinery supplier for technologies enabling a sustainable energy provision on the basis of renewable energies.

In the Semiconductor segment SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES focuses its activities on the vacuum coating of wafers with ultra thin layers for the production of MRAM memory, thin-film write/read heads and other semiconductor applications.
