Singulus Technologies AG:New Order for OPTICUS Ophthalmic Lens Coating Machine

The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. —————————————————————————— Press release New Order for OPTICUS Ophthalmic Lens Coating Machine Kahl/Main, February 13, 2006 – The SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES AG (SINGULUS) achieved an important sales success for its 2nd new business area “Optical Coating”. One of the world’s largest producers of ophthalmic lenses ordered an OPTICUS coating machine. The newly developed OPTICUS uses an automated process technology for the coating of optical lenses. In close cooperating with a renowned key customer, in 2003 SINGULUS developed innovative coating and process technology for the antireflection coating of ophthalmic lenses. The first machine was already rolled out at the beginning of 2005. This new technology satisfies all the prerequisites to revolutionize the existing production of optical lenses. SINGULUS’ proven Inline coating process stemming from the batch production of CDs and DVDs automates the production process and reduces costs. The integration of the customary hard and antireflective coating within the optical lens production into one Inline process and the complete automation of the plastic eyeglass lens processing has not been possible so far with the existing machines and processes and in particular not for the so-called dispensed production. With SINGULUS’ know-how the hard as well as the antireflective coating can be applied in one machine on both sides of the plastic lenses. SINGULUS draws on its core competence in the area of vacuum coating. SINGULUS achieved the breakthrough for its TMR coating technology at the end of December when the first order of a production machine for write/read heads of magnetic hard-disk drives was received. With these orders SINGULUS was able to overcome the high entry barriers in the semi-conductor industry as well as in the ophthalmic lens production sector. To safeguard long-term growth both business areas are being further progressed in addition to the core activities of machines and equipment for the production of optical discs.
