SIMS METAL MANAGEMENT ANNOUNCES NEW EXECUTIVE TEAM APPOINTMENTS
Sims Metal Management CEO and Managing Director Alistair Field today announced additions to his executive management team.
In making the announcement, Mr Field said, “I am very excited to announce the additions to our existing executive management team. These new executives bring a wealth of global experience from industry leading companies that will have an immediate positive impact on the Company’s continuous improvement and growth objectives. With our executive team now strengthened, I believe we have the talent and experience necessary to deliver on our strategic initiatives.”
The following executive appointments have recently been approved:
Effective 1 February 2018, Stephen Mikkelsen will join Sims as the Group Chief Financial Officer . Stephen will work closely with the executive management team to help set the operating and strategic agenda for the business. This support spans across all finance functions, including reporting & analysis, treasury, investor relations and strategy implementation. In addition, Stephen will play a key role in the business’ continuous improvement, integration, and capital reinvestment programs, as the Company sets the platform to enter its next stage of growth.
Stephen has over 30 years’ experience in finance and executive management roles. Prior to joining Sims, Stephen held senior leadership positions at AGL Energy, including Chief Financial Officer from 2006 to 2012, which was followed by Group General Manager Retail Energy and Executive General Manager Energy Markets. Previous to AGL, he was the Chief Financial Officer of Snowy Hydro from 2001 to 2006, and Chief Financial Officer of Contact Energy from 1999 to 2000. Stephen is a Chartered Accountant and a member of Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand.
Effective 27 September 2017, Michael (Mike) Movsas joined Sims as the President, North America Metals . In this newly created role, Mike will be responsible for the complete operations of the North American metal recycling businesses. Mike has more than 25 years of global experience in the metal recycling and steel industries, and has been based in Hong Kong, Johannesburg, London, New York, Sydney and Tokyo. He is a former board member and Managing Director of Macsteel Holdings, one of the largest independent multinational steel trading and merchandising corporations in South Africa. Additionally, he was a former CEO and co ‐ founder of Reclamation Holdings, the largest metal recycling company in Sub ‐ Saharan Africa.

Effective 1 December 2017, Brendan McDonnell joined Sims as the Chief Technology Officer . In this newly created role, Brendan will be responsible for managing the organisation’s technology related strategies and Project Management Office (PMO) function to deliver technology and related technology enabled projects. Brendan will also establish a technological vision for the organization that supports and advances our strategic objectives. In addition, Brendan will manage the organization’s IT infrastructure and software platforms and develop an IT strategy in conjunction with the executive management team. Brendan is an experienced senior executive with over 30 years’ experience in IT and technology management roles. He has worked in highly technical and digital businesses including as a director of 1 ‐ Stop Connections and as the General Manager of Patrick Technology in the development and commercialization of world leading automation and optimisation technologies for container terminals.
Effective 2 January 2018, Brad Baker will join Sims as the Chief Human Resources Officer . Brad will be responsible for all aspects of Group HR functions and will work closely with the executive management team to develop and deliver a HR strategy that supports and advances our strategic objectives. Brad has more than 25 years of HR management experience in plastics, metal processing and mining services industries and he brings extensive global operations HR management and board level experience with US and Australian publicly listed companies, most recently as Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Boart Longyear.
Mr Field concluded by saying, “These appointments complement the strong leadership team which is already in place. The additional capabilities these individuals bring to the Company will allow us to achieve our strategic objectives at a faster pace than was previously possible.”
