Rood Technology – Research Project ‘Re-Use of Test Blocks’ Successfully Completed – Assessment of the Results: Very Good

Rood Technology Nördlingen, the German-based branch of Rood Testhouse International, has done very well in the technical expert assessment of the research project ‘Re-Use of Test Blocks’ (ROT) carried out by the specialized VDI/VDE Technology Center (Berlin-Teltow), a group commissioned by the Bavarian Ministry of Economics. The project was jointly prepared by Rood Technology and the West Bavarian Technology Center (TCW).

The development results from the research project ROT were audited. ROT is a completely new approach in software engineering, in this case program generation for electrical testing of microelectronic components on automated test equipment. The target of the project is halving the development time of test programs, which is achieved by resolutely modularizing and standardizing test blocks that can be combined into any integrated development environment and processed with relatively little effort. This process is independent of the type of test system deployed – something completely novel in this field!

To summarize the assessor's results: The project has been a complete success, the targets have been achieved to the full, project management has been excellent and the principle developed (ROT methodology) and the implementation selected have been extremely innovative.

A similar opinion is shared by the two directors Dr. Anton Kotz, Rood Technology, and Dr. Markus Glück, TCW. “We have learned a lot and the big players in the business are very interested in a continuation of our innovative concept,” said Dr. Anton Kotz. And according to Dr. Glück: “The TCW, too, has proved its efficiency in this first large-scale research project and withstood this ‘baptism of fire’ excellently.”

The results of the project are certainly something to be proud of: 2 patents have been registered, a demonstrator has been shown to the international specialist community on the occasion of conferences and exhibitions, several publications in technical journals have been devoted to this theme. Existing workplaces in the development area can be safeguarded and new positions created.

Many well-known technology companies and chip manufacturers have announced their interest in the project results. Some of the interested parties wish to accompany this development in the future and have signalled possible participation in the project. Detailed discussions are currently ongoing.
