Rio Tinto announces that Michael L'Estrange, Non-executive Director of Rio Tinto plc and Rio Tinto Limited, was appointed as a director of Qantas Airways Limited with effect from today.

This information is disclosed to the London Stock Exchange (LSE) in accordance with the requirements under paragraph 9.6.14R of the United Kingdom Listing Rules relating to the disclosure of new directorships in publically quoted companies by a director of the company.
