The sender is solely responsible for the contents of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG, Bad Neustadt/Saale – Takeover of Stadtkrankenhaus Cuxhaven – Purchase contract signed before notary – City Council of Cuxhaven approves deal unanimously Bad Neustadt/Saale, 29 June 2003 —– RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG announced today that the contract for the acquisition of the municipal hospital of Cuxhaven by the Company was attested by a notary on 21 June 2003 and approved unanimously by the City Council of Cuxhaven on 23 June 2003. The Supervisory Board of RHÖN- KLINIKUM AG had al-ready given green light for the transaction, so that the management agreement took ef-fect on 23 June 2003; the transfer of ownership will be effected retrospectively as from 1 January 2003 on completion of the corresponding statutory approval procedures. The partners to contract have agreed to maintain secrecy on the purchase price. Stadtkrankenhaus Cuxhaven, an academic teaching hospital serving the Medical College (Medizinische Hochschule) of Hanover, operates a total of 286 beds under the state hospital plan. As a standard acute care centre, it houses a number of medical disciplines, including general surgery, internal medicine, gynaecology and obstetrics, otorhinolaryn-gology (ENT), urology, and paediatrics. At June 2003, the hospital employed 613 per-sons. The takeover materialised against the background of the challenges of the forthcoming introduction of the DRGs (hospital care remuneration system based on diagnosis-related prices per treatment), which Stadtkrankenhaus Cuxhaven would probably not have been able to face by its own efforts. With the contractually agreed construction of a new hospi-tal building, and by putting to work its tried and tested restructuring know-how, RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG will ensure high- quality care provision even under the new pricing system. Stadtkrankenhaus Cuxhaven houses the centre for wireless medical counselling (Zen-trale Stelle für funkärztliche Beratung) which provides worldwide telemedical emergency services for German ships.
