COMPANY ANNOUNCEMENT

Select Vaccines accelerates development program with appointment of highly experienced business development manager

Melbourne, Australia - Wednesday, 6 August 2003: The Board of Select Vaccines (ASX:SLT) is accelerating its commercial development program with the appointment of Dr Anthony Filippis to the newly created position of Vice President, Business Development.

Dr Filippis brings to Select Vaccines ('Select') extensive experience in business development in the life sciences sector, during which time he has negotiated international licensing agreements for clients in academia and commerce. He was previously a consultant with the Health Care and Life Sciences practice at KPMG Consulting and most recently, Vice President, Business Development at Biocomm Services Pty Ltd. At Biocomm he was responsible for negotiating and completing licensing agreements, including the major agreement between Monash University and RiboTargets Ltd, which at the time was one of the largest licensing deals transacted by an Australian academic institution.

"From the outset Select Vaccines' mission has been to commercialise the valuable outcomes of infectious disease research at Melbourne's Burnet Institute. One of our first commercial imperatives, to license our point of care rapid diagnostic kits for hepatitis A & E, will be greatly assisted by Dr Filippis' presence," said Dr Soust, Managing Director of Select Vaccines.

"He is now working with us to progress negotiations with potential partners with the specific aim of fasttracking the commercialisation of these technologies. Anthony's strong background in biotechnology and business will be valuable in carrying out his role with Select.

"In light of the fact that the company's lead product is license-ready and is being independently evaluated by a global diagnostics manufacturer with expertise in infectious diseases it was appropriate for an appointment such as this to be brought forward," added Dr Soust.

Dr Filippis had worked with the Burnet Institute before Select's involvement with them and he has also had dealings with several other Australian research institutes. He is well known to the parties with whom Select will be talking and this will help accelerate those negotiations.

"His network of contacts in the international biotechnology and medical diagnostics industries will be invaluable in progressing the technology under development in our two project companies, Hepgenics Pty Ltd and Picoral Pty Ltd, and we look forward to further updating the market on our progress in this area over the coming weeks," said Dr Soust.
