Select Vaccines Announces Further Positive Results from Vaccine Program

Melbourne, Australia - 30 March 2006.

Select Vaccines Ltd (ASX:SLT) today provided an update on research activities, including the attainment of important milestones, to its shareholders attending the company's Annual General Meeting.

The company's CSO, Assoc. Professor David Anderson, gave a report on results from its hepatitis C vaccine program obtained during the first quarter of 2006 which showed the vaccine to be highly immunogenic in a second species of mammal.

A further study was required to be undertaken in a second species of mammal which could be used in formal pre-clinical safety and toxicology studies before moving to clinical trials involving human volunteers.

A group of 6 rats were given a single dose of vaccine (5 micrograms) and after 3 weeks 5 rats showed a very strong antibody response. The sixth animal showed no significant response to the vaccine. None of these animals had any adverse reaction to the vaccination and they remained healthy throughout the study.

A group of rabbits was also investigated but as no working assay could be developed the company has chosen to focus its work on rats as the second mammalian model.

These results further underpin the findings announced in November last year and confirm the broader applicability of the company's VLP technology. Anderson told the company's shareholders "we have now shown that our VLPs can produce an immune response in two different species. This is important and powerful evidence of the applicability, for some diseases, of the VLP vaccine technology that we are working with."

"It is also worth noting that in using mice and rats we can study both antibody- and cell-mediated immune responses with well established assay systems," Anderson added.

On the strength of these results the company is now moving forward with the initiation of a clinical trial of its hepatitis C VLP vaccine as soon as possible.

The company's CEO, Dr Martin Soust, stated the main focus now was the pre-clinical development of its VLP vaccines against malaria and influenza as well as taking its hepatitis C vaccine through to a Phase 1 human trial. The company plans to initiate this trial in 2007.

Since January this year the company has been identifying contract manufacturing organisations (CMOs) with the ability to produce the hepatitis C VLP vaccine for use in clinical trials. Recently, proposals have been obtained from qualified CMOs and it is anticipated the contract could commence as early as May this year.

Currently, in the diagnostics program the company has successfully completed a pilot study of a newly developed test and two other pilot studies are nearing their conclusion. The company has decided to identify development partners for prototype development of these tests. Select Vaccines will seek partners that have both manufacturing and distribution capabilities.

A presentation of the results obtained in the vaccine program will be on the company's website in the next few days.
