Rejlers involved in the largest port construction in Sweden in a century

In September, the ground-breaking ceremony was held for the new port in Norvik outside Nynäshamn. Some 15 engineers at Rejlers are responsible for the detailed project engineering of the trunking, telecommunications and security, as well as the lighting and power supply of the largest port construction in Sweden in a century.

The client, the Ports of Stockholm, is making major investments in the new commercial port. Stockholm is growing and today, nine out of ten products come to Sweden by boat. A new port in the Stockholm region makes it possible to ship goods directly to Stockholm and the Mälardal region, and environmentally disruptive road and rail transports can decrease.

Rejlers already hasa framework agreement with the Ports of Stockholm and the assignment for the preliminary planning will be under way until October 2017 when it will be time for the procurement process. The port is scheduled to welcome the first ships sometime in 2020.

In total, it involves 1,400 metres of quays that will function for both container ships and rolling goods, so-called RoRo vessels. The port area will be 44 hectares large and a railway will also be built to connect the area with the Nynäsbanan line.

"This is a very prestigious assignment. Being involved with the project engineering for an entirely new port where everything is done from the beginning is extra exciting. It has been a century since an entirely new port was built in Sweden," says Johan Linterius, Representative for the project at Rejlers.

The security aspects are important and the dimensioning in terms of power transmission must last a long time.

Stockholm Norvik Port

Ports of Stockholm is building a new port for rolling goods and container trafficat Norvikudden outside Nynäshamn. The Stockholm Norvik Port is the Baltic Sea freight port of the future.
