ASX ANNOUNCEMENT / MEDIA RELEASE
ABM RESOURCES INCREASES EQUITY IN MIMOSA GOLD PROJECT
Increase in Mimosa Project Equity
ABM Resources (ASX: ABU) is pleased to announce that it has increased its holding in the Mimosa gold project to 67.33%. As announced on 22 February 2008, ABM acquired the interest from Ayr Resources Africa- one of the Joint Venture partners- who offered its interest in the Mimosa project to all shareholders on a pro rata basis in accordance with the Mimosa shareholders agreement. ABM had an agreement with ARA to acquire its interest subject to complying with the Mimosa project Joint Venture Agreement. That has now been completed and ABM has now acquired a further 2.39% taking its total equity to 67.33%. ABM has the right to increase its shareholding to 86.33% through spending another USD3M in exploration expenditure.
Mapping, further sampling and drill pad construction are progressing well at Mimosa and drilling will commence shortly.
Mimosa Project Background
The Mimosa Project is located in the under-explored Archaean greenstone belt of the Manica Province in central Mozambique, approximately 800 kilometres north of the Mozambique capital of Maputo. The project covers an area of 960 hectares. Mimosa lies in the east-west trending OdziMutare Greenstone Belt which has historically produced 2.5 million ounces of gold.
The Manica greenstone belt has extensive gold mining history over a large area and no modern exploration work has been carried out. At Mimosa, local artisanal miners have been mining gold from sheeted quartz veins and stockworks by hand for approximately 20 years. Mimosa contains ‘walk-up’ gold drill targets.
Planned Mimosa Exploration Program
Planned exploration in the first half of calendar 2008 at Mimosa is as follows:
-
Mapping program, further soil sampling, petrology, planning for the drilling program and more detailed remote sensing data analysis all of which commenced in the middle of February.
-
Mapping program completion and drill pad construction.
-
Acquisition of detailed remote sensing data.
-
RC drilling program planned to commence in June
-
Further target definition through continued geological mapping, trenching and soil sampling work.
