Waternet's IT infrastructure in 'smooth waters' despite a data deluge
Waternet has recently signed a 5-year contract with Proact for the supply, implementation and maintenance of a new storage infrastructure. This environment will serve as a basis for increasing availability and related IT infrastructure services.
In 2011, Waternet launched a project called "Vital" which centres on the renewal of the company's IT infrastructure and increasing its availability. As part of this project, Proact has advised Waternet on modifying the existing storage infrastructure and placing a new platform in a second data centre. Both environments are based on NetApp technology and will guarantee required availability and scalability, now and in the future. The platform will also provide the required performance for a virtual desktop environment, set to be deployed in the future, through the use of NetApp Flash Cache technology.
Availability will be ensured by using Disaster Recovery & Backup replication for a second, fully refurbished, data centre. The NetApp Snapmanager software will be used for a full SAN-based backup, whereas SnapVault and SnapMirror will be used for backup and disaster recovery.
"Availability and performance are inextricably linked. In order to meet Waternet's expectations, Proact has increased performance and availability levels by deploying NetApp. We expect 'Vital' to work optimally and we are all working together to make this a reality. Our users require capacity and availability and, by ensuring the system's reliability, we are again living up to our promises by increasing our users' competence and efficiency levels ", says Craig Taylor, Waternet's Programme Manager.
Lucas den Os, Managing Director of Proact Benelux, is pleased with this agreement: "Steering 'data deluge' generated by our customers in the right direction is in our genes. So it's very nice to see that we are giving a personal stamp to an important part of Waternet's 'Vital' project. We look forward to a successful partnership with Waternet."
Proact will supply the total solution, including 24/7 support, all of its own, for the hardware and software.
