Pro Medicus positioned for growth - breaks 2.5 million transaction mark
November 1st 2002
Shareholders of Australia's leading medical IT and e-health provider Pro Medicus Limited [ASX:PME] were told today the company was well positioned for growth following a record 2002 year when after tax profit lifted 17.8% to a record $4.81 million.
In his address to the Annual General Meeting, Chairman Mel Ward AO announced that the company had achieved a number of key milestones during the past 12 months that would form the basis for further growth in the coming year.
These included the strong performance of Promedicus.net, the company's e-health offering which Mr Ward announced had now delivered over 2.5 million diagnostic results with transaction numbers continuing to grow strongly.
"Our monthly volumes have grown rapidly in the last year. We reached the two-and-a-half million transaction mark in under half the time it took to get our first million. I don't know of any other e-health company that can consistently show this kind of result," he said.
According to CEO. Dr Sam Hupert. Pro Medicus is a key player in the change sweeping across the Australian medical fraternity. "Many doctors are creating paperless practices and require medical information such as diagnostic results to be securely delivered in an electronic format for incorporation into patient records. Promedicus net does exactly that. With over 10,000 doctors using our system we have become the de facto standard for results delivery," he said.
Mr Ward also highlighted a number of other key achievements which included:
- An increase in cash reserves by 53% to $7.94 million
- An increase in margins to 66.5%
- A greater percentage of revenue coming from recurring sources
- Major new sales contracts, including a $5 million three year contract with Mayne Health
- Commercialisation of the new suite of digital imaging products developed as part of the alliance with Agfa Healthcare
- The first sale of these new digital imaging products to Lake Imaging Group $\bullet$
"This last year has been our biggest one to date." said Dr Hupert. "In addition to growing both the core and e-health divisions of our business, we have made a significant investment in new product development particularly in the area of digital imaging. This will provide us with a significant new revenue stream."
Mr Ward confirmed that the company was now looking to capitalise on this investment and was actively assessing opportunities for its products overseas as part of its alliance with global imaging giant Agfa.
