*Whistl UK to end E2E operations and focus on DSA, door drop media, packets & parcels and logistics*
London / The Hague, 10 June 2015 – Following the termination of the discussions on the proposed investment in Whistl UK to fund the further rollout of its current end to end (E2E) activities, we have assessed alternative scenarios for Whistl’s E2E operations. Further to this assessment, it has been decided to end Whistl’s E2E operations. Whistl remains committed to further developing its successful activities in the UK, including downstream access (DSA) service, door drop media, packets & parcels and logistics.
Whistl is in ongoing consultation with the affected employees through their union and employee representatives to minimise the impact of this decision.
The financial impact of the termination of Whistl’s E2E-operations is estimated at around €25 million - €30 million. This will be recognised as one-off and will have no impact on the underlying cash operating income (UCOI) of PostNL.
Whistl is the second largest postal operator in the UK. With its highly mechanised DSA business it collects and sorts over 80 million items of mail a week, accounting for 55% of the DSA market.

Londen / Den Haag, 10 juni 2015 – Met het beëindigen van de discussie over de voorgestelde investering in Whistl om de verdere uitrol van zijn huidige end-to-end (E2E) activiteiten te financieren, hebben we alternatieve scenario’s voor de E2E- activiteiten onderzocht. Op basis hiervan is besloten om de E2E-activiteiten van Whistl te beëindigen. Whistl blijft zich inzetten voor de verdere ontwikkeling van zijn succesvolle activiteiten in het Verenigd Koninkrijk, inclusief collectie en sortering (’downstream access’ (DSA)), reclamefolders, pakketten en logistiek.
Whistl is via de vakvereniging en de medezeggenschap in overleg met de betrokken medewerkers om de impact van dit besluit zoveel mogelijk te beperken.
De financiële impact van de beëindiging van Whistl’s E2E-activiteiten wordt geschat op ongeveer €25 miljoen - €30 miljoen. Dit zal een eenmalig effect hebben en zal daarmee het onderliggend cash bedrijfsresultaat (UCOI) van PostNL niet raken.
Whistl is het tweede postbedrijf van het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Met zijn hoog geautomatiseerde collectie- en sorteernetwerk verzamelt en sorteert het meer dan 80 miljoen poststukken per week. Daarmee neemt het 55% van de collectie- en sorteermarkt voor zijn rekening.
