PRESS RELEASE

PLANETEL S.P.A. KICKS OFF CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW DATA CENTER IN PADUA

The project is designed by In-Site, one of Italy's leading companies in the design of next-generation data centers.

Treviolo (BG), December 5, 2025 – Planetel has officially launched construction of its new Data Center in Padua, designed by In-Site, an integrated engineering and architecture firm specializing in complex technological infrastructures. The initiative is part of a broader redefinition of Italy's digital geography and underscores the strategic role of North-Eastern Italy in the country's digital transformation. With this project, In-Site further confirms its leadership in the design of advanced digital infrastructures, adopting an approach focused on the reuse of decommissioned sites as cutting-edge hubs for the data economy—ushering in a new season of industrial regeneration and technological innovation.

In line with the objectives of limiting land consumption and enhancing existing building assets set out in the regional "Veneto 2050" framework (Regional Law 14/2019), the project involves the redevelopment of a former industrial complex located in Padua's Industrial and Agricultural Zone (ZAI). Veneto stands among the most dynamic Italian regions in urban regeneration: over the past five years, it has activated more than €400 million in investments, targeting a portfolio of approximately 11,000 decommissioned industrial sheds(estimated value €3.9 billion) ready for transformation.

Padua is a historic Internet exchange hub, thanks to the presence of VSIX and a well-established infrastructure network and already hosts seven active data centers. Planetel's decision further reinforces this central role and opens a new phase of infrastructure development aligned with the growing demand for cloud and edge services. The Data Center will cover a total surface area of 1,200 square meters and will also include office space and customer areas—confirming an approach that puts people and services, not just machines, at the heart of the infrastructure.

Construction is scheduled for completion by November 2026. The total investment, amounting to approximately €7 million, reflects Planetel's commitment to strengthening its infrastructure presence in North-Eastern Italy.

From a technical standpoint, the facility is designed according to the highest international standards (ANSI/TIA-942 and ISO/IEC 22237) and Tier III requirements, ensuring reliability, security and operational continuity. It features 2N redundancy on generators, electrical and mechanical systems, with an IT load of 1 MW and capacity for up to 120 racks. Connectivity is ensured by a proprietary dual optical ring delivering 400×2 Gb/s. This brownfield redevelopment boasts a designed PUE of less than 1.23, zero-water-consumption cooling systems, and rooftop photovoltaic integration. Security is guaranteed by a 24/7 manned Network Operations Center (NOC), with advanced surveillance systems and dedicated personnel.

The Data Center will be interconnected with major operators and the strategic nodes of VSIX Padua and MIX Milano, with the option to activate third-party optical circuits, enabling an open and high-performance ecosystem. Security will be overseen by the 24/7 active NOC with monitoring and dedicated surveillance systems. The project embodies the concept of edge infrastructure: a distributed ecosystem that reduces latency, enhances resilience and integrates the new hub with major national and international nodes. Conceived as a laboratory of innovation, it is designed to host new technologies, artificial intelligence applications and advanced digital services.

The initiative forms part of Planetel's long-standing strategy of investing in resilient, locally rooted infrastructures. "With the Padua Data Center," comments Planetel CEO Bruno Pianetti, "we are bringing to life an infrastructure that meets the highest technological standards while also serving as a sustainable, secure and local hub for businesses, institutions and citizens. Our goal remains to support local communities in their digital transition, strengthening a development model rooted in innovation and sustainability."

Pietro Matteo Foglio, CEO & Founder of In-Site, adds: "A Data Center is not merely the place where data resides it is where the digital world meets people. With this project in Padua, we give tangible form to the DataSpace vision, In-Site's research lab created to reinvent digital infrastructures: distributed, resilient and fully integrated into local territories, capable of transforming data space into a shared collective resource."
